Spa architecture on the Baltic Sea

Spa architecture
on the Baltic Sea

Spa architecture is a fascinating and diverse field of architecture that focuses on the design of bathhouses, thermal baths and wellness facilities. This particular form of architecture dates back to ancient Roman times, when public baths became social meeting places. Today, spa architecture combines traditional elements with modern design and technology.

Filigree decorations, playful details and the use of natural materials such as wood and stone are typical of spa architecture. The buildings are often characterized by harmonious symmetry and integrate well into the surrounding landscape. Large window fronts and elegant balconies often offer a picturesque view of the sea or other natural elements.

The style of spa architecture varies depending on the region and period. On the Baltic coast of Germany, for example, many bathhouses are built in the style of classic 19th century spa architecture, while modern spa facilities around the world feature more minimalist and contemporary designs.

Overall, spa architecture combines aesthetics, functionality and the creation of a relaxed atmosphere. It plays an important role in the tourism industry, as well-designed bathing facilities are not only places of recreation, but also cultural and architectural treasures.

Villa RUGIA, an outstanding historical building in the style of spa architecture, is a striking part of our wellness hotel on the Baltic Sea. It is located along the magnificent Wilhelmstrasse in Sellin and houses the Ambiance and Toujours restaurants, the Jules Bar and the reception – the heart of our exclusive private hotel. The spacious terrace enjoys great popularity as a meeting place from which guests can watch the goings-on on Wilhelmstrasse. The inviting fireplace lounge invites you to linger and relax, and not just in winter.

The carefully restored Villa VINETA is awe-inspiring: two rows of columns support the loggias, which extend across the entire exterior façade and whose supporting beams are decorated with ornate carvings. This building was once home to the mayor of the village and later to the great-grandparents of the current owner. Villa Vineta houses the library of the Romantik ROEWERS Privathotel – a cozy room in country house style, with bookshelves and comfortable wing chairs that invite you to linger by the historic tiled stove, especially in the colder months.

Hidden in the picturesque hotel park is Villa SELLA, which not only accommodates additional guest rooms, but also offers a delightful pool area. This oasis features an indoor pool, a whirlpool, sauna and steam bath, a beauty fishing area, various relaxation zones and a wonderful sun deck with comfortable loungers. Since summer 2017, the roof has been adorned with a rooftop pool 13 meters long and a rooftop sauna with a fantastic view of the green surroundings. This exclusive area is reserved exclusively for adult guests.

Built in 1905, Villa FINJA is a Nordic log cabin with charming Finnish style elements. The artistically decorated wooden constructions on all the gable areas of the house are particularly noteworthy. A meticulous restoration was carried out between 1998 and 1999, which was implemented authentically down to the smallest detail. As an extremely rare example of a log house of this type in the region, the villa is a listed building.
